We start our trip through Romania by its capital. We take a short walk through the historic centre, eating in a famous restaurant. We head north to sleep near the start of Transfagarasan road.
We start the day with a visit to the Curtea de Argeș Monastery, and then ascend the Transfăgărășan road to Bâlea lake. After lunch, we descend along the northern slope to Sibiu.
Our journey continues with a visit to the Turda Salt Mine and the city of Cluj-Napoca. In the afternoon we visit the first wooden churches of Maramures, one of the most rural regions of Romania.
This day we continue to visit more churches in Maramures and the Sapantza Cemetery. We move east to the region of Bukovina, where we arrive in time to visit the Moldovita Monastery.
A day to visit the painted churches of Bukovina, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993. These churches are famous for the colourful exterior frescoes that adorn their walls.
After a five-hour drive on mountain roads, we reach the medieval town of Sighișoara. On the way to Râșnov, we stop to visit the fortified church of Viscri.
Intense day in which we visit the fortified churches of Harman and Prejmer, the historical centre of Brașov, the touristic castle of Bran. We finish the day with an excursion to Zărneşti to see bears.
Before heading to the airport, we stop in Sinaia to visit Peleș Castle, built in the 19th century and considered one of the leading examples of neo-Renaissance architecture in Europe.
